SDGsの目標16「平和と公正をすべての人に」は世界規模の大きな問題への取り組みです。戦争、難民、人身売買などというキーワードも、日本で生まれ育った多くの人々には自分達には関係のない、他国の問題に見えるかもしれません。しかしながら、子ども、女性、高齢者など、社会的弱者への暴力や搾取の問題は、日本でも多く存在します。組織的な腐敗、汚職などによって、これらの問題が前景化されないケースもあります。目標16は実は多くのSDGsの取り組みの土台となるような目標であると言えます。
ルース・ベイダー・ギンズバーグは、自らも差別を受けながら、27年間、連邦最高裁判事として公正な世界のために戦った女性です。彼女の功績と影響力は大きく、カリスマ判事として有名で、2018年には、彼女の伝記映画『ビリーブ 未来への大逆転』も作られました。
